About Houses of Veyra

Houses of Veyra is a free sandbox strategy RPG that runs in the browser, set on a fractured alien world where feudal houses fight with blades, carbines and the remnants of ancient technology. You begin as the leader of a minor noble house and travel freely across the campaign map: recruit and command soldiers, trade between regional markets, hunt raiders, take paid contracts to support noble houses in their wars and pursue your own claim to land, by legitimacy or by force. The world goes on without you, with merchants, food runners, patrols, noble retinues and bandit parties, settlements whose economies run on population and provisions, and NPC battles that are auto-resolved and change the campaign. Battles are fought in real time with armies of up to 20 a side: you control your character directly in melee and ranged combat, or switch to a slowed-down command mode to give formation orders to infantry, spearmen, carabineers and house retainers. Settlement politics, relationships, influence, petitions and dynasties sit on top. The developer describes it as a Bannerlord-style world map with real-time squad battles and CK3-style politics, and says: “I design and direct it. Claude Code writes the code (Codex did before)”; the art is generated from the developer's briefs. It is an early playable alpha in active development, free on itch.io in English and made with Godot 4.

How it was built

Partially verified

In a post on r/ClaudeAI (4 Nov 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “I design and direct it. Claude Code writes the code (Codex did before), and the art is generated from my briefs.” A CLAUDE.md file sets the rules: no new feature without a short plan the developer approves, small stages, and a focused test, a checkpoint note and a commit for each stage; plans end with decisions for the developer, each with a recommended option. In the post's example, Claude Code first wrote a tool to time battles of each size in headless Chrome with the CPU throttled to imitate a phone, then profiled the battle code, replaced the soldiers' all-against-all spacing checks, verified that the new code gave the same answers as the old, and reported that the gain on phones was small.

CodexSecondary

The developer's Reddit post says Codex wrote the code before Claude Code took over; when and how much is not stated.

Development approach

Designed and directed by the developer, with the code written by Claude Code (and by Codex earlier) and the art generated from the developer's briefs, per the Reddit post. The developer says the main campaign script alone is about 14,000 lines and that there are over 230 tests. The Godot web build on itch.io holds about 360 script files for battles, the campaign map, politics, dynasties and economy, including touch layouts for the campaign map.

— JonnySoft, I asked Claude Code to make every soldier fight in my strategy game. It measured first, and then told me its fix didn't help phones (r/ClaudeAI)

Verification notes: The claim that Claude Code writes the code comes from the developer's post on r/ClaudeAI by u/Ivaricus (4 Nov 2026, 15:08 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive; it links the JonnySoft itch.io page. The itch.io page's own disclosure is vaguer (“generative-AI-assisted ... development under human direction”). Features come from the itch.io page (read 4 Nov 2026); the battle size of up to 20 a side is the current one, and the post describes work toward larger battles as planned, so it is not listed as a feature. The comparisons to Bannerlord and CK3 are the developer's. The first public release date is not stated: the earliest devlog post (“Demo Update 1”) is from 26 Jul 2026 and Update 9 (3 Nov 2026) is version 0.1.30. The Godot web build (checked 4 Nov 2026) has no script whose name points to a network or AI service; the scripts are compiled, so their contents were not searched. The itch.io rating of 5.0 rests on 1 rating. Language from the itch.io page (English). Team size and location are not stated. The game was not played.

Development history

  1. “Demo Update 1” (political contracts, living houses and 20-versus-20 battles), the earliest post in the itch.io devlog.

  2. Update 9 (version 0.1.30) adds a new political system and a painted map.

  3. The developer posts on r/ClaudeAI that Claude Code writes the code.
