Boots & Bullets
A free top-down squad shooter in the browser after Cannon Fodder: six men, one hit each, fifty missions.
Official site bootsandbullets.com, verified Nov 3, 2026. Official site named in the developer's press kit and dev log. The IMBF Games page lists the game but links an older Render address (cannon-fodder.onrender.com), which showed “Service Suspended” on 3 Nov 2026.
Rights holder / original work: Cannon Fodder (Sensible Software)
The press kit describes the game as a renamed remake of Cannon Fodder, the game's code reuses recruit names from the original, and an earlier build was hosted at cannon-fodder.onrender.com. No source mentions a licence from the rights holder. (IMBF Games)
VibeGameDB lists this game only to document that it was made with AI coding tools. We do not host it, we do not represent the rights holder, and listing it does not mean it is licensed.

About Boots & Bullets
A top-down squad shooter for desktop browsers, which the developer's press kit calls a remake of Cannon Fodder (1993) under a different name and with no original graphics. You lead six fragile soldiers with the mouse, left click to move and right click to fire, and one hit kills anyone, yours included. There are 50 campaign missions across jungle, desert and the frozen north, with objectives such as clearing every enemy, levelling buildings, finding an officer, rescuing hostages or holding an outpost; War Bonds earned between missions buy guns, throwables and call-ins in the Armoury. The Herd is a challenge map where 300 enemies come at you at once, and 1v1 multiplayer runs in private rooms joined by code. Major Trumper, an officer who is certain, wrong and nowhere near the fighting, gives the briefings. Darren Moore of IMBF Games, the developer of the browser strategy game Inselnova, built it with Claude Code: the dev log says one prompt on 30 August 2026 produced a prototype that was online the next morning, and ten days later it had 50 missions, a horde mode and two-player multiplayer. Sprites are drawn by code when the game starts and the sound effects are synthesized. Free, with no account or install; phones are not supported yet.
How it was built
VerifiedThe developer's dev log describes building the game by prompting Claude Code, starting from one prompt asking for a Cannon Fodder prototype, and directing it over ten days through 17 custom Claude Code skills (for committing, releasing, playtesting, checking pixel art, writing specs and more), with each issue checked by a Playwright test or a headless run. The developer says the AI wrote all of the basic multiplayer code, and reports 721 commits and 62 sessions in the ten days. By the developer's count Claude Opus 5 handled 77% of the turns and Fable 5 and 5.1 the rest. The developer also kept a separate Codex session with no access to the code for bouncing ideas and planning, which Claude Code then checked against the code before building. How much code, if any, was written by hand is not stated.
A TypeScript game drawn on Canvas 2D with one runtime dependency (ws, for multiplayer) and one asset file, the menu music; every sprite is plotted into a canvas from code when the game starts, the terrain comes from a one-character-per-tile grid, and sound effects are synthesized with WebAudio. The dev log says four things were imported rather than drawn by code, including Major Trumper's portrait. The developer typed problems into a briefing file while playing, had a /spec skill split them into one file per issue, and had Claude Code work through them one at a time. The developer reports 58,000 lines of TypeScript and 80,000 lines of Markdown documentation after ten days. The developer paid for a $200 Claude Code Max subscription for the month, shared with the other game, Inselnova, and estimates the same tokens would have cost about $11,100 at API prices.

“You lead it, not the AI.”Verification notes: Tool, models, process and numbers from the developer's dev log of 8 Sep 2026 on the Inselnova site; facts about the game from the official press kit (developer Darren Moore, IMBF Games; early preview, September 2026; TypeScript and Canvas 2D; desktop browsers only). Checked for runtime generative AI because the game advertises “AI sides” in its attract mode: the “AI sides” in the attract mode and the CPU-vs-CPU arena are scripted game bots, and the game's client code only talks to its own servers (games, multiplayer rooms and its own analytics); no calls to AI services were found. Major Trumper's lines are written into the game. The press kit says the game is made by Darren Moore, so team size is one, although the IMBF Games page describes a small team. The exact release day is not stated: the dev log says a first build was on a Render address on 31 Aug 2026, and the press kit gives “Early preview, September 2026”. The developer's $200 subscription covered both games, so no development cost is recorded for this one. The press kit says the game is not affiliated with Sensible Software or Codemasters, who own the Cannon Fodder name, and reuses none of the original graphics. The game's code does include four recruit names from the original game (Jools, Jops, Stoo and RJ) in its pool of soldier names. Location is not stated.
