About BOY1
A paid turn-based stealth escape puzzle for iPhone. BOY1, a humanoid robot thrown away for being “too human”, climbs a tower floor by floor. Without its FACE it passes as a mindless machine that the patrols ignore but that can do nothing; with the FACE on it can open doors, fool robots and break through walls, but the machines can see it. Every move is one tile and one turn on an 8×8 grid, and every robot steps along a fixed patrol route, so nothing is random: each of the 30 floors across five zones is a hand-designed layout to read and solve. It has 16-bit-style pixel art and chiptune music, one-handed portrait play, and no ads or in-app purchases, and it works offline. The developer, who says they sculpt figures as a hobby, is not a programmer and created the BOY1 character, writes on r/aigamedev that Claude Code wrote the code in Godot 4, generated the pixel tiles procedurally and synthesized the music and sound effects in code, while the developer did the design and direction, over three months including store preparation.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe developer's post says Claude Code wrote the code in Godot 4, generated all the pixel tiles procedurally (the renderer checks for a PNG first, so an artist can replace any tile later) and synthesized the chiptune music and sound effects in GDScript from a mood brief per zone, with no audio files. The workflow also used a headless solver that proves all 30 floors can be cleared after every change, and a snapshot runner that renders any game state to an image so the developer and Claude could check visuals from screenshots; the post does not say who wrote these tools, though it credits Claude Code with the code. Every rule and confirmed decision went into CLAUDE.md so new sessions could continue. The developer, who says they are not a programmer, did design and direction, and says that past a certain point their job became saying no to further “fixes”.
A design document as memory, per the developer: every rule and decision was written into CLAUDE.md as soon as it was settled, because sessions otherwise drifted and undid each other's work. Every visual is a tile hook that falls back to procedural drawing, the audio is synthesized in code, a headless solver re-proves all 30 floors after each change, and a snapshot runner turns game states into images for review. A script re-applies signing and display-name settings after each Xcode export, which the developer says made shipping repeatable. Visual consistency across sessions needed written sprite and shading rules, and App Store review took five days until an expedite request went through.

“Claude Code wrote the code, generated the pixel art procedurally and synthesized the chiptune. I did design and direction.”Verification notes: AI use from the post by u/OkSun790 on r/aigamedev, read through a mirror snapshot captured 11 Sep 2026 (the original reddit.com URL was not checked). The post links this App Store listing ($2.99) and the site q07-cell.github.io/BOY1, which redirects to boy1.world; that site links the App Store listing, and the App Store's privacy-policy link points to boy1.world. The link between the Reddit account and the App Store seller, Kyusik Jung, is therefore indirect and not formally confirmed: no page names the seller together with the Reddit account, and the site credits SHINBAEKSAEK. boy1.world could not be resolved on the first attempt and loaded on a second. “Claude Code wrote the code” and “I'm not a programmer” are the developer's words; no code share is given. The post does not say whether anyone else worked on the game, so team size is left undisclosed. Release date, version history, price, requirements and languages from the US App Store page and Apple's lookup data; the store showed too few ratings to display a score on 3 Nov 2026. The pixel art and music are generated by code written by Claude Code, not by an image or music model, per the developer. No source mentions generative AI running in the game.
