About Build & Destroy - Fortress Duel

A physics building-and-siege game in the browser with two halves. As a builder you stack stone, wood and glass blocks inside a build zone around your flag, within a 60-point budget, and the game runs a physics test before you can publish: if blocks slide, topple or the flag takes too much damage, you have to reinforce the fortress. As a destroyer you pick another player's published fortress and try to capture its flag with a launcher and a limited number of shots, choosing ammo that the fortress's materials unlock: a light Stone Chip for masonry, Wood Crushers for timber, Blast Bombs that break clusters of supports and Glass Shatter shots that burst into five shards. Fortresses can be shared as links and copied into the builder, and leaderboards rank the best defences and the cleanest captures. The entrant says the idea came from wondering why games of this kind do not let players build their own levels. The game's About text says it was built with Codex as the coding partner, and the footer reads “vibe coded by @domenicodd”. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Codex as the tool, and it finished 256th of 945 entries. Free in the browser, in English and Italian.

How it was built

Partially verified
CodexPrimary

In the official Vibe Jam 2026 submission the entrant lists Codex as the tool and answers Yes to the AI-written field. The game's About text says Fortress Duel was built with Codex as the coding partner, covering design direction, implementation, generated arcade art and polish, and the footer reads “vibe coded by @domenicodd”. The same About text credits the arcade images (panorama, mode cards, leaderboard and social preview) to OpenAI Image 2; that is art, not code. No devlog describes how Codex was used or which model.

Supporting evidence
  • DeveloperAbout text: “Fortress Duel is a responsive browser game built with Codex as the coding partner: design direction, implementation, generated arcade art, and polish all stay editable as regular web code.” — domenicodd
  • OfficialJam rule 3: at least 90% of the code has to be written by AI. — Vibe Jam (Pieter Levels)
Development approach

Built for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026 with Codex named as the tool. Per the game's About text, it renders with Three.js and uses Planck.js (Box2D) physics for block stacks, projectiles, collisions and flag capture, with Vite, vanilla JavaScript modules and HTML HUDs; a Node server and a Neon Postgres database handle published fortresses, results, share images and leaderboard reads. The arcade images were generated with OpenAI Image 2.

Verification notes: Tool (Codex), engine (ThreeJS), genre (Puzzle, Strategy), pitch, inspiration and the multiplayer (No), mobile (No) and portal (No) flags from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (submitted 27 Apr 2026, 20:49 UTC; final rank 256 of 945 entries, no award), re-read on 5 Nov 2026; rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. The entrant answered No to mobile, but the game's About text mentions compact controls on phones, so the listing includes mobile. The entrant's inspiration names Angry Birds as the game that prompted the idea; that is a comparison by the entrant, and no third-party names or assets were found in the game. Materials, budget, ammo types, physics test and the English/Italian interface from the game's script and About text on 5 Nov 2026; the game was not played. Developer: X handle domenicodd only; no real name, location or team size is given. The game's code connects to its own server and the jam widget; no calls to AI services were found. The jam page's widget counter showed 253 plays for launchingdock.com on 5 Nov 2026 (observed; plays are sessions, not players or downloads, so not recorded as a metric). The release date is not stated; the jam submission is dated 27 Apr 2026.
