About 황혼산맥 디펜스

A free defense game in the browser, in Korean. Monsters walk a track through a mountain map; you spend crystals on summons (normal, hero or legend, each with its own success rate), place units on tiles, combine them into stronger ones and pick augments between waves. Clear 25 waves to win; let 50 monsters build up on the map and you lose. There are 15 achievements, a 2x speed button and background music, and the game recommends a screen of 1920×1080 or larger. It was made by 김병호, a reporter at the Korean games outlet Inven, for part two of a first-person dev diary series on vibe coding. The author says they had no coding knowledge, dropped Lovable after an earlier clicker game went nowhere, and switched to Claude: Claude wrote a design document from defense-game information the author gathered and then built the game, and the author kept adding units, monsters, music and effects by giving instructions. The graphics were made with Gemini and cut out and edited by hand in Photoshop, and the balance went through twelve rounds of tuning with friends testing.

How it was built

Partially verified
ClaudePrimary

In the dev diary the author says coding went to Claude and graphics to Gemini. After asking Claude to list the web games it could make by difficulty, the author picked a defense game, gave Claude defense-game information gathered online and had it write a design document, which the author reviewed and adjusted; Claude then built the game from it, and the author added unit placement, unit combining, new monsters, win and lose conditions, music and effects by instructing Claude, and asked it for completeness suggestions. Claude also wrote the design specs the author passed to Gemini for the art and gave feedback on the results. The author calls it Claude throughout and does not say whether this was the Claude chat app or Claude Code; the screenshots and the mention of switching between two chat windows suggest chat. The author first tried Lovable for an earlier game in part one of the series.

Development approach

Design document first, logic before graphics: Claude drafted the design and the first playable version, the author refined systems one at a time by instruction, then added art made with Gemini and edited in Photoshop, fixing clipped images and monsters walking off the track with Claude's help, and finished with twelve rounds of balance changes based on play by the author and friends. The playable build is a single HTML page with inline JavaScript and a canvas (observed).

“코딩은 클로드, 그래픽은 제미나이로 역할을 나눠 작업했는데, 흐름이 꽤 그럴싸했거든요.”

Verification notes: Everything about how the game was made comes from one source: the developer's own first-person dev diary on Inven (part 2, 2 Jun 2026). It is written by an Inven reporter about their own game, so it is treated as a developer statement, not as independent press, and no popularity signal is recorded. The play link in the diary leads to this Netlify page, titled “황혼산맥 디펜스 v3”; game features and the recommended resolution were observed on the page, which is in Korean (lang=ko) with no other language option found. Which Claude product was used is not stated, so the tool is recorded as Claude. When the game first went online is not known, so no release date is recorded. The page is on a generated Netlify subdomain and could move. No calls to AI services were found in the game page.

Development history

  1. The developer publishes part two of the dev diary on Inven, about building the game with Claude and Gemini, with a link to play it.
