About Picnic's Over

A short arcade score-attack game in the browser. The family has gone to see the ducks and left the picnic leftovers on the blanket, ants march in from the grass, and you have a minute and a half to defend the food. You press an ant, pull back and let go to flick it away; it knocks over any ant it hits, and three more in one flick is a STRIKE. Flicking an ant that is carrying a crumb sends the crumb back to the food, since a bite is only lost when an ant gets it home or the dog eats it. You can also swipe a napkin through a line of ants, which recharges after each swipe, or drop a cloche over a leftover for five seconds. Every few seconds the picnic's die rolls across the blanket and picks the next wave (scouts, workers, a long line, beetles that take two flicks or flying ants), with a scent trail showing where they will walk. Flick three ants into Biscuit, the dog asleep in the corner, and Biscuit wakes up and the leftovers lose three bites; the family's favourite leftover counts three times. The share of the picnic you save sets your stars, and winning a round makes the next one harder. The developer, Cocolito Collective, says Claude Code wrote all of the code, every sprite (drawn in code) and every sound (synthesised with Web Audio), while Claude Opus 5.5 in a Claude project handled the idea, plans, dialogue and page art. Made in 48 hours for Ctrl+AI+Jam Week 01 (theme Leftovers, limitation One Room), where it ranked 1st of 11 entries. Free in the browser on itch.io, best with a mouse.

How it was built

Partially verified

The developer's “Toolkit details” on the jam submission page: “Claude Code ([CODE MODEL]) for all code: the game, every sprite drawn in code, every sound synthesized with the Web Audio API, the bot players that tuned the balance, and the automated Firefox checks.” The model name was left as an unfilled placeholder. The game is plain JavaScript with HTML5 Canvas, with no engine, and Node.js for the local server and tools. In a comment on the page the developer adds that three Claude player profiles (casual, mid and pro) were used to try out the game.

Per the same answer, Claude Opus 5.5 in a Claude project was used for the game idea, batch plans and briefs, concept art drawn in code, the family's dialogue, the pixel logo and the itch.io page art. The answer says no image, audio or music generators were used.

Development approach

Made in 48 hours for Ctrl+AI+Jam Week 01: plain JavaScript on an HTML5 canvas with no engine, every sprite drawn in code and every sound synthesised with the Web Audio API, all written by Claude Code from plans and briefs prepared with Claude in a Claude project. Claude Code also wrote bot players used to tune the balance and automated Firefox checks. No AI runs in the game.

Verification notes: AI use from the developer's “Toolkit details” on the official Ctrl+AI+Jam Week 01 submission page; gameplay, controls, tags, languages (English), inputs (keyboard, mouse) and AI disclosure from the itch.io page; both re-read on 6 Nov 2026. The answer contains an unfilled placeholder, “Claude Code ([CODE MODEL])”, so no model is recorded for Claude Code. The 100% AI code share reflects “for all code”. The jam's rules require an AI tools section and human iteration but are not code-specific. The submission does not name a person; the developer record is shared with Laser Dot, Sky Patent and Tidewick, where the team list names Daniel. Team size is not stated for this entry. Publication (12 Oct 2026, 03:35 UTC) and last update (26 Oct 2026, 13:58 UTC) from the itch.io page; the submission page said it was submitted 7 hours and 18 minutes before the 12 Oct, 11:00 UTC deadline. The submission lists two flavour cards attempted, Roll the Dice and Don't Wake It. Jam results (11 entries, 5 ratings): 1st overall (3.800), 1st in Human Polish, Fun Factor and AI Innovation, 2nd in Aesthetic Cohesion; a panel of judges makes the final call in this jam, and the page's prize table lists $50 for first place (not confirmed as paid). The game's modules (about 50 ES modules) were checked and make no calls to AI services. itch.io shows no public rating and no download count. The game was not played.
