Mature content

The site describes gunfights, police chases and arrests, gangs that shoot back, explosives and heavy weapons (every run starts with ten weapons, including a rocket launcher, grenades and molotovs), and its credits file lists a building model used for a strip club. (Brinewater (vlad.yt))

The site calls Brinewater “a GTA-style open world” and its paint garages “Spray n Pray”, renamed from the GTA term “Pay 'n' Spray” used earlier on the same page. The game's credits file says the cars, city maps, street props, trees and sounds “come from mods by these authors” and lists about a hundred gta5-mods.com entries, several of them noted as converted from commercial games such as CSR2, Assetto Corsa, Forza, GRID 2, Need for Speed Underground 2 and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune; it says the mods are downloaded by a script for local, personal play, are not redistributed with the project and that all rights remain with their creators and the original rights holders. Other assets are credited as CC0 or Creative Commons (Poly Haven, Sketchfab CC BY 4.0, CARLA, Kevin MacLeod). The game also names real St. Louis businesses and shows St. Louis Metropolitan Police liveries. No source shows a licence from Rockstar Games or the original rights holders. (Brinewater (vlad.yt))

About Brinewater

Brinewater is a free open-world driving and action game for desktop browsers, set on the real street grid of St. Louis, Missouri. The map is generated from OpenStreetMap and the city's own data (road lanes and widths, building footprints and heights, the interstates with their ramps) and streams in tiles around the player, from downtown and the Arch out to South County and across the river to the East Side, with day and night and rain. Traffic stops at lights and queues at junctions, and buses run the real Metro routes, which you can ride or drive for pay. Causing trouble raises a wanted level: patrol cars give chase and try to spin you out, then come roadblocks, spike strips and SWAT, and at five stars a helicopter with a searchlight. There are gangs that hold their corners and shoot back, missions and taxi jobs, and you can get out and walk the crowded streets. Cars dent, lose panels and catch fire under Rapier physics, and every run starts with ten weapons, from a pistol to a rocket launcher. The site calls it “a GTA-style open world” and says it is a hobby project not affiliated with Rockstar Games, the City of St. Louis or Metro Transit. It is updated almost daily from Reddit requests, which are tracked on a public request board (“Built in public from your comments”). The developer says it is built with Claude Code and that they direct and play-test it. The site's credits say most cars, map pieces, props and sounds come from community mods for GTA V and other games (see the IP notice). Free, with no account; it is made for Google Chrome on a computer, with keyboard and mouse or an Xbox controller.

How it was built

Partially verified

In a post on r/threejs (4 Nov 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “It's built with Claude Code, and I direct and play-test it.” The post does not name a model or say how much of the code Claude Code wrote. The same post describes the stack: three.js with a custom post-processing chain (SSAO, bloom, filmic tone mapping, day and night, rain), Rapier (WASM) for cars, ragdolls and debris, tile streaming with KTX2-compressed glTF models and LODs, and one deterministic Node script that turns the OpenStreetMap extract into tiles in about 45 minutes for the whole metro area.

Development approach

Directed and play-tested by the developer, built with Claude Code. Rendering is three.js with a custom post stack; Rapier (WASM) handles vehicles, ragdolls and debris, and crash damage tears panels off as separate rigid bodies. The St. Louis metro area is cut into streamed tiles built from OpenStreetMap and city data by a deterministic Node script, and a rebuild ships only the tiles that changed. The post lists draw calls with thousands of buildings, shader warm-up hitches and detecting Chrome's software-rendering fallback as the hard parts. Most car, map, prop and sound assets come from community mods and Creative Commons sources, per the credits file.

— Vlad Bondarenko, I built a whole drivable city in three.js: real St. Louis from open map data, with traffic, police chases and crash physics (Rapier) (r/threejs)

Verification notes: AI use and the stack come from the developer's post on r/threejs by u/Ok_Incident222 (4 Nov 2026, 20:43 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive on 6 Nov 2026; the post links the play address. Features, controls, the daily update log (latest entry 5 Nov 2026), the hobby-project and non-affiliation statement and the content come from the official page, and the asset sources from its CREDITS.md file, both read on 6 Nov 2026. The developer's name and location come from the personal site vlad.yt, whose subdomain hosts the game; the Reddit account is tied to that site only through the link in the post. The game's script bundle makes no calls to AI services (checked 6 Nov 2026). The page's request board says Reddit comments appear on it within fifteen minutes; how they are collected was not checked and is not part of the game. The first public release date is not stated. The credits file says the mod assets are not redistributed with the project, while the public build shows cars that match credited mod models; we record this as stated (see the IP notice). The game was not played.

Development history

  1. Background police chases across the city, a livelier crowd and drift and gunfire fixes, per the site's update log.

  2. The developer describes the game and its stack on r/threejs and says it is built with Claude Code.

  3. The map grows south and across the river, the paint garages are renamed “Spray n Pray” and turns in traffic are fixed, per the site's update log.
