About Shrinebreaker
Shrinebreaker is a free online first-person battle game for mages that runs in the browser, with nothing to install. Three orders, Cinder Vow, Moon Veil and Reed Vigil, each defend a Keystone shrine and fight over power pools in arenas drawn in a painted retro fantasy style: bias the pools to your order, wear the other shrines down and break them. You choose your order in the tavern before every match, so friends can fight side by side in one battle and against each other in the next. Every mage follows one of four disciplines, Elementalist, Warden, Runewright or Mindweaver, plus the Druid, a class on public trial with roots, groves and spirit beasts; spells unlock as you level up to 50, and each discipline has two ultimates. Match types include Conquest, Capture the flag, Free for all, Deathmatch, Escort and Warfront, in which three orders of 30 fight over four waystones, and bots of varying skill fill the teams when few players are online. Seasons, quests, feats, guilds and a weekly Hall of Honours sit around the matches. There are three interface styles and gamepad support, and an experimental Windows app with the art installed locally. The developer says the game is inspired by the 1990s online battle-mage games, naming Magestorm, and that “I direct it, and Claude Code writes almost all of the code”; the concept art and spell effects are made with Codex. The site names Twisted Up Entertainment LLC as the copyright holder. In English.
How it was built
Partially verifiedIn a post on r/ClaudeAI (3 Nov 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “I direct it, and Claude Code writes almost all of the code.” Everything is built with Claude Code (Opus 5.5) on a Linux machine that also hosts the live game. One main Claude session acts as producer: it triages the players' in-game feedback tickets and chat, writes briefs and starts background agents, each in its own git worktree and branch, which write tests, take screenshots and report back; the main session reviews, merges and deploys. Deploys go out only when nobody is online and are checked by a Playwright run against the live site, hundreds of test suites cover the server, bots, movement, spells, renderers and interface, and about 70 docs plus Claude's own memory files keep the decisions. Claude also writes the in-game replies to players whose tickets were fixed, and a Claude Code session drove the game with Playwright and OBS and cut the trailer with ffmpeg.
Per the developer's Reddit post, “Codex (GPT) makes the concept art and spell effects from briefs that Claude writes”; Claude binds the art into the game and reviews it against the style guide, and the developer approves it.
Directed by the developer, with Claude Code writing almost all of the code and Codex making the concept art and spell effects, per the Reddit post. The developer says the game took about five weeks, but calls that a little disingenuous, because lessons and much of the backend infrastructure came from a separate game in the works for over a year; the post counts more than 800 commits. Sound effects and music come from several places: some were bought from commercial sound libraries, voice-overs were made with ElevenLabs, some effects with Adobe Firefly, and many with Stable Audio run locally. The game has a GPU renderer with a CPU fallback. The developer puts the cost at about US$300 a month for Claude and GPT subscriptions, shared with the other game.

“I direct it, and Claude Code writes almost all of the code.”Verification notes: The AI claim rests on the developer's post on r/ClaudeAI by u/zrikz (3 Nov 2026, 20:38 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive; it links shrinebreaker.com. The site itself does not mention AI. Features come from the home page, the how-to-play page and the update notes (read 4 Nov 2026); the Reddit post adds team sizes of up to 33 a side. The release date is the first entry in the update notes, 5 Oct 2026 (“Shrinebreaker begins”; the same entry says the game now lives at shrinebreaker.com and that you sign in with Discord). The post's title figures (800+ commits, 80+ live players, thousands of hours of play) are the developer's own and were not checked; it is not clear whether 80 is a concurrent or a total count, so it is not recorded as a metric. Magestorm is named by the developer as inspiration only; the site lists no Magestorm names or assets. The shipped JavaScript of the browser game (about 2 MB, checked 4 Nov 2026) contains no OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, OpenRouter or Groq addresses; the bots are game logic. The Windows app was not downloaded. English only, as observed. Team size and location are not stated. The game was not played.
