About Slopocalypse

Slopocalypse is a free 3D survivors game that runs in the browser. You move with WASD and aim your spells while enemies close in from every side: a homing missile fires on its own, and you cast Fireball, Frost Nova and Blink yourself. A run lasts about five minutes on a scripted difficulty curve and ends with a two-phase boss, the Lich King. Spells evolve (Inferno, Absolute Zero), combine into synergies and power up through level-up cards, and an unlock shop and achievements carry over between runs. Beating the Lich King once unlocks a second hero, the Spellblade, a heavy-metal dwarf with a rune greatsword, his own spells and evolutions and his own industrial-metal soundtrack. There are Normal and Hard difficulties, and it plays with keyboard and mouse, a controller or touch on a phone; the developer says desktop is best. The game's page now describes a 10-level Conquest campaign with two heroes. The developer first posted it as Hearthworks on r/vibecoding on 13 Oct 2026, calling it a 3D Vampire Survivors-style game, and renamed it Slopocalypse two days later after working through the comments. The developer, a former personal trainer, says they direct, playtest and make the calls but write none of the code: Claude Code wrote the code, the design documents and the tests and deployed every build. Free, with no ads, per the developer.

How it was built

Partially verified

In the first post on r/vibecoding (13 Oct 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “I don't write any of the code myself; I direct, playtest and make the calls.” The post's tool table gives Claude Code for “All code, design docs, testing, deploys”. One main Claude Code session running Opus acted as lead, writing specs, reviewing every change, running the tests, checking the game in a browser and deploying, while each build stage went to a separate Claude subagent running Sonnet that worked from the written spec. Balance is checked by bots that play the game, including one that stands still and must lose, and exploits the developer found became automated tests. In a follow-up post two days later the developer says Claude read the Reddit thread through its RSS feed, turned the 61 comments into a roadmap and handed the fixes to four agents working in parallel, each in its own copy of the repository, which the lead session reviewed, merged, tested and deployed.

  • DeveloperFollow-up post (15 Oct 2026): calls Hearthworks “a 3D survivors game I built with Claude Code without writing code myself” and says “I'm not writing code.” — Reddit (u/Bonelessgummybear)
Development approach

Per the developer's posts, the game feel was built first with plain shapes, and art came only after that: concept images from Higgsfield (GPT Image 2.5), turned into 3D models with Meshy 7 through Higgsfield, then rigged and given walk clips; the enemy walks are baked into vertex animation textures so hundreds can animate at once. Sound effects and music come from ElevenLabs, and the floor and wall textures are CC0 from Poly Haven. Claude turned the developer's brief into versioned design documents and built the game in stages; every deploy is gated on a type check, the full test suite and the build. The game is written in TypeScript with Three.js, Vite and Vitest and hosted on Vercel. The first post counts about two days from the first commit, 79 commits, about 19,000 lines of TypeScript plus 9,000 lines of tests and 724 automated tests; the follow-up counts about 38,000 lines and 1,745 tests. The developer puts generation costs for the first version at about US$14 (about US$21 with two days of the Claude Max plan) and, two days later, at about US$15 of Higgsfield credits and US$1.20 of ElevenLabs credits for the whole game, plus US$11 for the domain and about US$13 of the Claude plan. Per the follow-up post, anonymous play counts were also added, stored in a free Supabase database.

Verification notes: The claim that Claude Code wrote the code comes from the developer's two posts on r/vibecoding by u/Bonelessgummybear (13 Oct 2026, 19:17 UTC, and 15 Oct 2026, 19:52 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive because reddit.com did not answer our checks. Gameplay, process, tools, costs and code statistics come from those posts; the description of a 10-level Conquest campaign with two heroes is the site's own page description (checked 4 Nov 2026), and we did not check what changed after the follow-up post. The shipped game links ko-fi.com/bonelessgummybear and credits ElevenLabs (sound and music), Meshy via Higgsfield (3D models) and Poly Haven (CC0 textures). The original Hearthworks build of 13 Oct 2026 is still online at slopocalypse-og.vercel.app with a banner pointing to the current version, and the first address, hearthworks-chi.vercel.app, now serves the current game; neither is listed separately. The follow-up post says 396 people had played 1,087 runs with 113 wins, from the developer's own anonymous play counts; this is developer-reported, not verified, and is not recorded as a metric. The name Nate is from the credits of the developer's other games (Take One, Birds with Guns); the developer's location is not stated. The first post calls the game “3D Vampire Survivors style”: this names a genre, and we found no Vampire Survivors names or assets in the game. We searched the shipped JavaScript for AI service endpoints and found none; the only such names are in a table that classifies where visitors came from (for example chatgpt.com or claude.ai). Nothing in the sources describes AI used during play. The game was not played.

Development history

  1. Posted on r/vibecoding as Hearthworks, a desktop browser game for keyboard and mouse.

  2. Renamed Slopocalypse with its own domain; adds a second hero (the Spellblade), Normal and Hard difficulties, controller and phone support.

  3. The developer reports 396 players, 1,087 runs and 113 wins from the game's own anonymous play counts (developer-reported, not verified).
