Rights holder / original work: Battle City (Namco, 1985; now Bandai Namco Entertainment)
The game's page calls it a free browser remake of the classic NES tank battler, the entrant's jam pitch names Battle City, and the developer's project page says it is inspired by the 1985 NES classic and rebuilt from scratch. A comment in the game's code says the first two campaign stages are hand-traced from NES Battle City emulator screenshots and stages 3 to 12 are reconstructions in the same NES design language, and the project changelog describes a tracer tool built to match the 1985 originals. The art is procedural and the audio combines synthesized sound, CC0 samples from Kenney.nl and sounds and music generated mainly with ElevenLabs, per the developer. No source mentions a licence from the rights holder. (Kristaps Bezbailis)
VibeGameDB lists this game only to document that it was made with AI coding tools. We do not host it, we do not represent the rights holder, and listing it does not mean it is licensed.

About Tank Town
A 3D cartoon tank battler in the browser. You drive a small tank through mazes of brick and steel, blast routes through walls, collect power-ups (star, shield, freeze, grenade, shovel, speed boost and extra life) and keep your base standing against waves of enemy tanks. There is a 12-level campaign with Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty, an online co-op mode that plays the same campaign with a friend, and two head-to-head modes, deathmatch and base defense, with matchmaking, private rooms and public leaderboards. The game's own page calls it a free browser remake of the classic NES tank battler, and the entrant's pitch describes it as Battle City reimagined as a 1930s Sunday-morning cartoon; the tanks, terrain and effects are drawn procedurally in a rubber-hose cartoon style. The developer, Kristaps Bezbailis, says it was developed solo over four weeks and is 95%+ vibe coded with Claude Code. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI, and finished 565th of 945 entries. Free, on desktop and on phones and tablets with a virtual joystick.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe developer's project page says the game is “95%+ vibe coded with Claude Code” and lists the AI as “Claude Opus 4.7 (95%+ of code generated via vibe coding)”. The official Vibe Jam 2026 submission also lists Claude Code and answers Yes to the AI-written field. Per the changelog, sound effects and theme music were made mainly with ElevenLabs, with CC0 stock samples filling the gaps.

Built for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026 with Claude Code (Claude Opus 4.7), solo over four weeks by the developer's account. Per the project page there is no game engine or build step: Three.js loaded as ES modules through an import map, custom GLSL shaders for the toon look, world curvature, water and scorch marks, and a Node.js, Express and WebSocket server with SQLite for leaderboards and stats. Online play uses client-side prediction, interpolation and server-side lag compensation. Audio mixes procedural 8-bit synthesis, CC0 samples from Kenney.nl and sounds generated mainly with ElevenLabs.

“Solo-developed over four weeks, 95%+ vibe coded with AI.”Verification notes: AI use from the developer's project page (“95%+ vibe coded with Claude Code”; “AI: Claude Opus 4.7 (95%+ of code generated via vibe coding)”; “Solo-developed over four weeks”), re-read on 5 Nov 2026, and from the entrant's answers in the official Vibe Jam 2026 games data (Claude Code; engine ThreeJS; genre “Shooter, Arcade”; multiplayer and mobile Yes; submitted 20 Apr 2026, 07:44 UTC; final rank 565 of 945 entries, no award); rule 3 on the jam page requires at least 90% AI-written code. The 95% figure is the developer's own and is recorded as stated (“95%+”). Developer: the game page credits Kristaps Bezbailis with a link to kristapsbezbailis.com, whose About page says the developer is based in Singapore; the X account KBezbailis in the jam data links the site and the game. Modes, power-ups and controls from the game page; tech stack and changelog from the project page. The changelog lists updates after the 1 May 2026 jam deadline (1 and 5 May), so the live game is newer than the judged version. A comment in the game's code says campaign stages 1 and 2 are hand-traced from NES Battle City and stages 3 to 12 are reconstructions in its design language (see the IP notice); the inspiration answer says the developer played NES Battle City recently and made this to play with friends. The client talks to its own server (WebSocket, leaderboard and stats API) and Datafast analytics; no calls to AI services were found (checked 5 Nov 2026). The “build story” post linked from the project page returned not found. The jam page's widget counter showed 81 plays for tanktown.kristapsbezbailis.com on 5 Nov 2026 (observed; only the old address is counted; sessions, not players or downloads, so not recorded as a metric). The release date is not stated; the changelog's first game-loop test is dated 6 Apr 2026.
