About Exit Interview

Exit Interview is a free top-down horde shooter that runs in desktop and phone browsers. It is set in an office that is automating everyone: Bartleby, an employee since 2015, has approved 41,206 automations, with one left, and you fight off the robots with a nail gun, a fire extinguisher and a dash. Machinery kills pay double, so you herd the robots into the shredder, the mailroom belt and the server vents, and pick one of three benefits at each performance review. Co-op works too, and you can invite a friend in the middle of a run. The game's menu calls it a vertical slice, and the developer calls it a first playable. The developer, who posts as u/OptimalPizzas, started it as a test of how far Claude Code could get doing basically all the work: they mostly wrote design notes and playtested while a group of Opus 5.5 agents built it, in about 63 hours from start to finish, of which perhaps 10 were the developer's. The main character's 3D model was generated with fal, Tripo and Meshy, the voice with ElevenLabs and the music with Lyria, and the props come from Blender scripts. In English.

How it was built

Partially verified

In a post on r/aigamedev (18 Oct 2026, UTC) the developer writes: “Started this as a test of how far I could get with Claude Code doing basically all the work. I mostly wrote design notes and playtested while a bunch of Opus 5.5 agents built it.” The game took about 63 hours from start to finish, perhaps 10 of them the developer's. Generated assets came from other services: fal, Tripo and Meshy for the main character's 3D model, ElevenLabs for the voice and Lyria for the music, at around US$29 in generation costs not counting Claude.

Development approach

Per the developer, Opus 5.5 agents in Claude Code built the game from the developer's design notes while the developer playtested. The stack is three.js, with the main character generated through fal, Tripo and Meshy, props made by Blender scripts, the voice by ElevenLabs and the music by Lyria, for around US$29 in generation costs not counting Claude. The developer's main lesson: generated 3D looks fine from a high camera but falls apart up close, because the character is one mesh. Co-op uses the game's own room server (rooms.exitinterview.gg).

Verification notes: AI use and the time figures come from the developer's post on r/aigamedev by u/OptimalPizzas (18 Oct 2026, 16:19 UTC), read from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive because reddit.com did not answer our checks. “Basically all the work” is the developer's wording, so no code share is recorded. The site does not name the developer; the tie rests on the post linking exitinterview.gg. The US$29 generation cost excludes Claude and is therefore not recorded as a development cost. Setting, weapons, controls and the vertical-slice label come from the game page (checked 4 Nov 2026); phone support and co-op from the post. The release date is not stated. No AI service addresses were found in the game's main script; it connects to the game's own room server. AI is the game's theme, not a mechanic. Team size and location are not stated. The game was not played.

Development history
