About Spice Voyager: 1612
A free historical sailing, trading and knowledge game for the browser, set in the Indian Ocean and the connected Atlantic world of 1612. You sail between ports, bargain in markets and survive storms, combat and imperial rivalries while dealing in spices, drugs and medicines such as pepper, coffee, indigo, ambergris, dragon's blood and bezoar stones. The game's own Design notes say knowledge is central: you start with partial understanding, crew members can identify goods, and taverns and encounters may teach, mislead or confirm what you think you know, so a cargo that looks profitable can turn out counterfeit or badly timed. Ports and terrain are generated from a world seed; the game shows the current seed and lets you enter one or generate a random one. The game's Author section names Benjamin Breen, a historian at UC Santa Cruz and author of The Age of Intoxication: Origins of the Global Drug Trade; his entry says he wrote a PhD dissertation and a book about the 17th-century drug trade. It was made for the Cursor Vibe Jam 2026, whose rules required at least 90% of each game's code to be written by AI; the official submission lists Codex as the tool. It finished 713th of 945 entries.
