About SkySprout
SkySprout is a small, complete pixel platformer that runs in the browser with no install or account. You guide a leaf-topped explorer through three worlds, Sunlit Meadow, Glowstone Grotto and Cloudtop Canopy, collecting coins, bouncing on beetles, dodging hopping enemies, hitting leaf-marked blocks from below for coins or sunfruit, and lighting the tall sky lantern at the end of each world. A sunfruit shield absorbs one hit and lets you break brick blocks, pennants mark checkpoints, every 50 coins give an extra life, and three optional sun shards are hidden in each world. Movement has walking, running, variable-height jumps, coyote time and buffered jumps; it plays with the keyboard on a computer or with on-screen buttons on touch screens, and your best score and sound setting stay in the browser. Sprites, scenery and sound are drawn and synthesised in code. According to the README, it started from one creative prompt on 8 Sep 2026 using the model GPT-6 Astra in GitHub Copilot CLI, with no skills, subagents, templates or downloaded artwork, and the model then implemented, tested and refined the game on its own in the same session. Free on GitHub Pages; the MIT-licensed source is on GitHub.
How it was built
Partially verifiedThe README calls SkySprout a one-shot prompt game built with the model GPT-6 Astra (gpt-6-astra) in GitHub Copilot CLI. It started with one creative prompt on 8 Sep 2026, quoted as typed: “not using any skills and just only the model, build a super mario orignal nintendo game that i can play on my keyboard”. No skills, subagents or multi-agent orchestration, game framework, starter template or downloaded artwork, music or ROMs were used. The README explains that “one-shot” means one initial brief followed by autonomous implementation and refinement in the same session, in which the model used file, terminal and browser tools, ran checks and corrected issues; it does not mean one model response. Repository documentation, automation and public publishing were requested afterwards. The credits say the game was created by DUBSOpenHub with GitHub Copilot CLI, powered by GPT-6 Astra.
Four files and no dependencies: index.html, style.css, engine.js (fixed-step physics, collisions, worlds, enemies, collectibles and game state, independent of the browser) and game.js (Canvas 2D rendering, code-drawn sprites, keyboard and touch input, Web Audio sound and local score storage). The browser runs the engine at 60 simulation steps a second on a 480-by-270 canvas. Tests with Node's built-in test runner cover movement, jumps, collisions, shields, checkpoints and world completion, and recorded keyboard playthroughs finish every world and collect all nine sun shards; a GitHub Actions workflow checks each change and publishes the four game files to GitHub Pages, and CodeQL scans the code.

“SkySprout started with one creative prompt on September 8, 2026, using GPT-6 Astra (gpt-6-astra) in GitHub Copilot CLI.”Verification notes: Features, controls, the prompt and AI use come from the README, read through raw.githubusercontent.com on 4 Nov 2026; the MIT licence is from the LICENSE file (© 2026 DUBSOpenHub). The hosted game (page language en) loaded on 4 Nov 2026; its two scripts make no network requests and contain no calls to AI services, and the README says there are no runtime AI calls. The prompt asked for “a super mario orignal nintendo game”; the README says the result is an original game with no Nintendo code, characters, sprites, music, level maps or ROMs and no affiliation with Nintendo, and we found no Nintendo or Mario names in the game's scripts, so no IP notice is recorded. The prompt date (8 Sep 2026) is given; the date the game went public is not, so no release date is recorded. Whether DUBSOpenHub is one person, a team or an organisation is not stated. github.com and the GitHub API were not used, so stars and commit dates are unchecked. The game was not played.
Development history
The single creative prompt is given to GPT-6 Astra in GitHub Copilot CLI, which builds and refines the game in the same session, per the README.
